About

Diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis (dcSSc), also known as progressive scleroderma, is an autoimmune disease, in which the body’s immune system attacks the body. In dcSSc, a person’s own immune cells attack the skin, causing tightness and thickening, and can also affect the internal organs, including the joints, lungs, heart, intestinal tract, and kidneys. Available treatments, which suppress or weaken the immune system, may decrease symptoms and slow disease progression. However, none of these medicines have shown significant long term benefit and they all have side effects.
